Are you over Overtime?

November 3, 2016

Overwhelmed with overtime?  Don’t overlook the Department of Labor’s overt overhaul of the overtime regulations taking effect December 1, 2016. UPDATED!

The IRS might be overzealous at enforcing the overhauled overtime regulations, so overprepare your overtime overseeing to overpower them!  It can be overtiring to overfocus, but you’ll be overjoyed if it’s overcome in advance!

Overtime pay for salaried employees is now expanded to those making over $913 per week (to $47,476 per year).  That’s over twice the current annual exempt amount of $23,660! Overwhelming.

We don’t want to over hype or over caution, but it’s good to be overcareful so you aren’t overcome by fines and penalties for those workers that are overexposed, and especially so you don’t overreact.

Our over earnest and over concerned advice is to start keeping track over your salaried employees hours to make sure they aren’t overworking.

We don’t want overtalk, so don’t overthink contacting us before we overbook!

UPDATE: Yesterday, a Texas court approved an injunction against this new overtime rule, preventing it from going into effect!  This is big news, and potentially confusing. Let us know if you need more information or have questions about this!
